Fifteen of us departed from the Day Centre in Molesey. Apart from Cliff's puncture near the Hampton Water Works a good ride was had by all and a very satisfactory lunch was enjoyed by all at the Thames Court pub at Shepperton Lock. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this series is that the boys are doing proper cycle touring, camping as they go. After two interesting urbanish rides we were back in rural Surrey (and, briefly, West Sussex) today, with elevenses at Redhill. I led fourteen south on N21 to Salfords where we turned right into Honeycrock Lane, then shortly crossed the A23 into quiet Lodge Lane. Soon we joined Meath Green Lane and admired the teddies. I had done more exploration of routes in the general northerly direction from elevenses stops and this time settled on one containing park riding, stately homes, the Rugby Stadium, the National Archive and even a river ride through a sewage treatment centre. He was 95years on the 25th of Octber 2011 According to the care workers of Rosclare home in Ewell Road Tolworth he was admitted to Kingston Hospital on the 18th and died on the 2oth of Dec. He died of Chest infection. Pat and Bill Mathews were his regular visitors and I saw him on the 17th before Xmas. 'A' Group 28th Dec

It was a very short ride for the B group to-day...resulting in a short ride report!



I was surprised to count more than 20 riders before starting off on our epic ride!! Roger was due to lead our ride today but unfortunately he was not well and Lynda stepped in at the last minute to take the lead. After some discussion with Mark it was decided that we would head for lunch at Woodies ending with tea at the Mannsion House in Nonsuch Park, Cheam. Lynda, Mark, Malcolm, Sandy, Beryl, John C, Neville, the two Alans, Norman, Tom and David set off on the journey.

A good gathering at Weybridge meant we set off with more than a dozen in tow. My Discovery is that trains go from Redhill to Tonbridge - indeed, if you're prepared to change at Tonbridge you can go as far as Ramsgate or Dover.  The train takes about half an hour and there are two per hour - more at busy times. Around 26 set off from Elleray Hall, 4 almost immediately getting dropped as other groups left at the same time. However the 4 made it to the lunch stop at the Thames Court pub at Shepperton Lock via Bushy and Sunbury, the remainder heading towards Twickenham and the Crane River park. A proper November day today, with a damp chill in the air, but Pete B led us at a brisk pace that kept the cold at bay.  Circuitously from elevenses at Claygate to lunch at Wetherspoons, Woking, then back by canal and river to tea at the Walled Garden, Sunbury.
31.2 miles at a moving average of 8.8mph and 1,397 calories, which should have just about covered my bumper slice of cake at tea.

I found myself with a dozen Easy Riders, some new faces among the regulars. We set out towards Ockham via Plough Lane, past The Black Swan and the boarded up Hautboy. At the end of Ockham Lane a right turn took us along to Guileshill Lane, steep hill and then the compensating run down to Ockham Road North. On the way from Long Ditton we went under the Kingston Bypass, cycling up a muddy bank around a horse that was blocking the entrance to the tunnel which was really wet, smelly and muddy. The Wayfarers fwc (free wheel competition) is held annually about this time  and this year will be held. Wed 26 October  (as publicised in The Sou’Wester).
A few thoughts before the event.
In ideal conditions of no wind (but tail wind would obviously help), the smaller personal frontal area the better, less wind resistance means you travel quicker and consequently further.
