B Group Nov 1st

Starting as a crisp, cold morning in brilliant sunshine, eighteen 'B' group comprising Judy, Bill, Gill, John G, Reg, Les, Nigel, Lynda, Francoise with Frank H, Norman, Liz, Ed N, Nev, Cliff, Ray H, Frank P and Robin leading, left Cobham along Brook Road, across Fetcham Common, through Fetcham, up to Bockett's roundabout, onto the bridleway through Norbury Park where three followed the leader and fourteen took an alternative track, leaving the leaders group waiting and searching for the remainder. Luckily, the obvious route continued down past Boxhill and Westhumble station, along the A24 cycleway to Pixham Lane, across Betchworth Park to lunch at The Dukes Head at Brockham. The afternoon plan was to go slowly over Pebble Hill to Epsom, but a majority of wimps voted to ride the flatter route through Leatherhead, finishing in Epsom for tea. We had nearly an hour of daylight left and I enjoyed the setting sun whilst crossing Richmond Park en route home.

B Ride

Where have all the B team gone? 'B' trio, Terry, Les led by Norman rode to Cranleigh via Albury, Chilworth, Blackheath and Shamley Green. We were held up riding through Albury by slow moving vehicles following a moving fog. The fog was caused by a lorry, a cross between a road-sweeper and a vacuum cleaner, clearing loose chippings from the newly resurfaced road. So we waited till the air cleared and pressed on to Cranleigh in gorgeous sunshine where, due to the speed of the small group, we arrived at the Onslow Arms before the kitchen was open. So we ordered drinks intending to move on to another pub, but while drinking the kitchen opened and we stayed for lunch. The food was good and the prices rivalled Wetherspoons, the beer was cheaper too (Bob take note!) After lunch back to Annie's for tea via Ewhurst, Forest Green, Ockley, Capel, Newdigate, Henfold and Dorking. Les didn't stop so Terry and I had tea. Terry met a former BAe colleague who could be a future member. Terry and I soloed back to respective homes.
Au revoir, Norman

April 19th 2006 - "B" Group

Better late than never, here is last week's 'B' group report - it didn't appear on the weblog. (It wasn't received for the Blog! But here it is now - Lisa)

After a brief committee meeting at Leatherhead, Norman led Gill, Jon, Les, Terry, Ray H and Phil M past Fetcham Mill Pond onto Lower Road through Bookham to Effingham. There we headed south along Beech Avenue to descend Whitedown, turning right onto the not so busy A25. Through Abinger Hammer (too late to see the clock strike) and Gomshall to turn off the main road and head for the Prince of Wales at Shere. Until quite recently a fillum was being made in Shere (and Godalming) but the makers and all their paraphernalia have now left. I understand one or two shopkeepers did quite handsomely out of their visit.
The PoW has been refurbished since we were last there, the food was fine. After lunch Phil and Ray left to go their own ways, I led southwards, then via Hoe Lane and Abinger Common to the foot of Leith Hill, pausing to admire the view south (we could barely see the South Downs). For a change we turned into Logmore Lane (the last time we went this way we were caught in a heavy thunderstorm with nowhere to shelter) - and enjoyed the views looking east, before arriving at Westcott, then back on the A25 to the outskirts of Dorking to Denbies where there was still plenty of chocolate cake. A nice day's ride - fortunately the forecast showers didn't materialise.

1st February 2006 - "B" group

Norman led 11 riders: Judy, Gill, Mary, Terry, Les, Cliff, Mike, John, Steve, Ed (recumbent) and one newcomer (Ian), to Sutton Green (not the one at the bottom of Sutton High Street!).The route was via Ripley, Old Woking and Mayford. The pub was the recently refurbished "Olive Tree" (Formerly the Fox and Hounds). We were joined at lunch by a tall cyclist who was apparently a refugee from the A-group! The food was very good but expensive. Return was back to Cobham, by-passing Ripley, to tea at the Cobham Day Centre, where we joined up with the Easy-Riders.

21st Dec 'B' Group

Three of us: Gill, Gerry and I rode from Walton-on-Thames via Chertsey, Thorpe, Virginia Water to Burrowhill "The Four Horseshoes" PH for lunch. We had tried the " Stag and Hounds", but they did not do food. Return via Old Woking, Send Marsh to Ripley. Tea was suggested but as it was the shortest day none of us wanted to waste the limited amount of daylight available. It was less cold then it has been. I clocked 54 miles.
