Easy Riders, 18th December

From Leatherhead centre, we went back via Ashtead Park, back of Epsom to Ewell Court (where the fire was last week) - Ewell Court House, a listed building.  It started in the roof - so it is believed, was an electrical fault.  Luckily, the firemen managed to get enough water from the near-by pond to put the fire out. 

After going through Nonsuch Park, we made our way to Prezzo in Cheam where Norman, Jane, Sandy, Clive, Sonia, Liz and myself enjoyed our C group Christmas lunch.  It was nice to see Liz, who has progressed to using one crutch.

Easy Riders - 4th December

Ten left the British Legion Hall at Cobham to lunch at the Prince of Wales in West End, Esher.   A miracle I didn’t loose any one!!  Via Cobham, Seven Hills Road, Hersham Road to the roundabout on the A244.  Lunch was very good, we then proceeded up Hawkshill Way to Esher roundabout, Hare Lane, Red Lane, Woodstock Lane to Clayton Road where I said my goodbyes and the rest proceeded to the day centre at Chessington. Weather was very good after the weathermen promised a wet morning which didn’t materialise, even a little sunshine in the afternoon.

A big thank you to Liz for being a good T.E.C. and thank you to the rest of the team.

Easyriders - Wednesday 27th November

Damp and misty but not cold and some super autumn colours in the parks around Teddington.  I must first of all wish Roger a speedy recovery,  Fuzz cycled direct to Kingston Hospital to cheer him up after elevenses today, with a signed card from so many of his Wayfarer friends.  We cycled from Elleray Hall past the stables and directly into Bushy Park by the NPL.  A small circuit past the water gardens and out of the Laurel Gate.  Thence northwards, crossing the railway at the end of Somerset Road and by the usual route to Teddington Lock, up to the Ham Gate, across the park and out of the Roehampton Gate.  We cycled past the Kings Head which has undergone extensive refurbishment in the last couple of years and is now a "gastro-pub" with gastronomical prices, then The Angel which looked a little forlorn and neglected and on to the Telegraph with it's historical links to the Admiralty and Portsmouth via Chatley Heath and other high points en route.  Norman enjoyed a very tasty home made pizza - which is their speciality and the butternut squash, orange and pumpkin soup was very good at £4.95.  But be warned they do not do sandwiches or jacket potatoes.  We then crossed Putney Heath and under the underpass to cross Wimbledon Common via the Windmill, past Cannizaro - and down into Cottenham Park, crossed the Beverley Brook and under the A3 , over the golf course into New Malden and criss crossing happily back towards Cheam.  A lovely day and a very nice BIRTHDAY for NORMAN.  Many happy returns.    Steph.  Oh and a welcome to Helen, who joined us from the Saturday afternoon beginners, Norman, Les, Brian and Ron made up the rest of the "team".

On a sunny but chilly day, after the meeting we made our way to West End and had lunch at the Prince of Wales. After a good lunch we made our way to Black hills then Claygate, Chessington and tea at Ewell Court.

C group ride - 6th Nov.

From North Cheam we had drizzly rain all the way;  closer to Cobham the heavier it got.  So, glad for a hot drink before our ride to lunch.  I led the scenic route to Ashtead - going through Claygate, Hook, Chessington, W. Ewell, back of Epsom Hospital to Ashtead Park.  A right turn after the park towards Lower Ashtead over the High St.  I was quite surprised our ride was 14 mls.  One rider having a puncture 5 mins before getting to The Woodman.  By this time the group had worked up an apetite for a good lunch.   We had a short ride back to The Olive Tree for afternoon tea; then made our way home via Ewell and Nonsuch Park before it got dark.

Easy Riders - 16th October

When I arrived at the Bradbury Centre with the rain I was surprised to see so many bicycles in the garden, 12 in total, so after some tea and light refreshment we set of in light drizzle to lunch at The Cap in Hand via the A307, Thorkhill road, Ewell Road, Rectory Lane, Woodstock Lane to Hook. After lunch the main contingent carried on to Chessington D C. I returned to Hampton Court to meet up with Pam and Gill who had been visiting Liz Bernard who has sadly had fisty cuffs with her bike and the road, ending up with a broken bone in the wrist. She is well and truly plastered up to the elbow. We wish her a good recovery. Then the terrible 3s cycled home in the sunshine.

A lovely spring day and excellent company on a lovely run out to Thorpe Green via Penton Hook. Returning the same way though cutting down to the Thames path and following through to the walled garden at Sunbury. Welcome to a new female rider whose name I have forgotten, and also Sandy, David and Wendy, Ron, Fuzz, Brian.

Easy Riders - 14th August

9 left Molesey Day Centre this bright and sunny morning heading for “The Feathers” at Laleham, it was a first for everyone.  We went via Rydens Road,  Station Road, Silverdale and down to Walton Bridge where they are dismantling the old bridge. We then proceeded to Chertsey Bridge and turned right to ride along side the Thames into Laleham.   We returned via Shepperton Railway, Sunbury and into Hampton Court at the "Five at the bridge";  we were then down to 4.

The group set off from Cobham but before reaching Blackhills separated into two groups, one destined to go shopping in Kingston while the other went directly to Woodies in New Malden. The happy shoppers turned up at Woodies a little later. Lunch was enjoyed out in the open around a table which was big enough to accomodate everyone. After lunch the group took off in the general direction of the Ewell Court Library.

Easy Riders - 31st July

This was the first time that I was to lead the Easy Riders and I was a little wary when I arrived at Walton Centre.  However, Fuzz soon had me sitting in the group and by the time we set off I had just about got the names sorted out.  There were 12 riders, including two new people, Katie and Sharon, whom I hope we shall see again.

We headed off along the towpath towards Walton Bridge, where we cycled across on the NEW cycle path - are we the first?  On the other side, a loop through River Ash Estate brought us out onto Fordbridge Road and we were soon passing through Lower Sunbury.  We turned off the Lower Sunbury Road on to a couple of paths which led us towards Hampton station and then via Ormond Avenue to the High Street.  Shortly after turning left, we took Dukes Head Passage into Bushy Park.  We cycled across to Chestnut Avenue, then picked up Cobblers Walk which brought us out to Park Road in Hampton Wick.  The last lap was along Lower Teddington Road/Broom Road to the pub, Tide End Cottage.

After lunch, the sun came out and we had a lovely sunny ride beside the river from Teddington Lock back to Kingston.  In the Market Place, there was a general consensus amongst those left that people would head home from here.  Sorry Norman, your recommendation for a tea-place in Kingston will have to wait for another time.  Thanks to everyone and special thanks to Ron for being back-marker and to Mark for showing me a useful short-cut.
