SHEPPERTON - MAIDENHEAD - SHEPPERTON
Wouldn't it be wonderful to report on a wonderful, sunny summer's day ride!!!
??? I am still looking forward to afternoon tea at Shepperton Lock, sitting in
the glorious sun!!!
We started off with nineteen riders but two had to leave us by the time we
reached Englefield Green via Prune Hill. Onwards through Windsor Great Park to
exit at Rangers Gate, route four took us to the Thames and onto the towpath
towards Eton Wick and on to Dorney. Whoops, rain drops, jackets on, but it
didn't last! From there we used the path alongside M4 to Bray; a threadle
through a few residential streets led us to Maidenhead Bridge, just a short
distance from our selected lunch pub, the Thames Hotel. Very good food and very
good service :)
A more straight forward return along the Jubilee River turning onto the path
alongside the Railway arches to Eton Bridge. Datchet, Horton,
Wraysbury........It was here the heavens opened!! The rain was so heavy that
it was almost pointless sheltering under the trees...but!!! As the rain eased
we continued to Shepperton where six stopped for tea etc. at the Mocha D
cafe.....whilst others continued on their way.
My thanks to all corner markers, to Tim for maps and Terry for back marking.
Great to have everybody's company and hope you all enjoyed the day as I did -
regardless!!!
Pam :) )
