Jennie Jackson Reports.
Twenty-three riders left The Queen Stage in Effingham in two groups, one of which was led by Julie Buckman, the first time she had acted as a sub-leader for B group. Down into Leatherhead, that’s where the climbing began, through Tyrrells Wood golf, Headley and on to the top of Pebble Hill Road which everyone took at their own pace going down, some enjoyed it others not so much.
From Betchworth we took lanes and a private road to the outskirts of Horley, generally with not much traffic, a small section of the A217 was negotiated, then it was through a new estate with lots of twists and turns finally ending up at our lunch stop, The Jack Fairman.
After lunch, we again visited the housing estate, a different part, and rejoined the lanes towards Brockham. Whilst on this section unfortunately Julie took a tumble into a ditch whilst trying to ward off a bee, this resulted in a trip to a local hospital, a cracked rib and some bruising.
Jennie took over the leading role and arrived to find the other group, lead by David J having tea and cakes at Lucio’s Coffee. Here after a telling of the tail as to the incident and suitably refreshed we made our way home.
Thanks to everyone that went on the ride and particularly those that back marked, in both groups.
We wish Julie a speedy recovery and hope it hasn’t put her off leading the B’s.
