Le Tour de Pub

Part of the route in London
Now here is a grand challenge: a team of scientists have worked out the shortest route to visit all the pubs in the UK.   There are 24,727 of them, including those on various islands, and the total distance travelled is about 45,500 km.   Now THAT would be an unforgettable cycling tour!  This link gives you the details, along with step by step (or should that be stagger by stagger) instructions if you need them.

This sounds a very good scheme, Simon. It would work well to do it as you are doing your Coastal Journey, that is, to do it a bit at a time.

If you were to do, say, a thousand a year, then it would only take 25 years, give or take. That's only 20 a week - very do-able. You'd need some sort of brevet card, of course, to prove that you'd done it, and there would be issues of dealing with pubs that closed, or, more importantly, opened, in a 25 year period. If one were to open at the other end of the country where you had already been it might involve considerable re-tracing of steps to include it.

Still, it's meant to be a challenge.

I expect you'd need a TUE for it, too ...
