Tony's rainy day ride

The weather forecast was not too good, but I decided to take a chance and cycled to Carshalton to join the river Wandle and followed it through Beddington Park to its source at Wadden Ponds and Wandle Park.

I then cut through Croydon and climbed up to Upper Shirley to view the windmill and then on to the viewing point in Addington Hills, but found the view obscured by the misty weather. I stopped briefly at the Coach House Café in Coombe Wood where the Saturday beginners led by Norman Goody used to stop for their tea. Turning back for South Croydon I went on to the RAF Memorial for Second World War victims and a view of the Croydon Airport building, then returned home to dry off.

(26 miles)
