Report for B Group - 11th September

Captain John writes:

The first group set off in pleasant but chilly weather on our longer than average ride to lunch. It was a splendid route with a large part of it in Windsor Great Park - a great riding area. Lunch was served in a different pub from usual and then we made our way home. Unfortunately we were caught by hailstones in Addlestone and many of us would have been rather wet by the time they reached home.

Captain Fixie writes:

The B group ride got underway out from Walton at 10.30am, heading towards the Cricketers in Warfield, via Windsor Great Park.

21 cyclists enrolled to take part in our ride this Wednesday, which divided into seven in each group

So we had three group Captains 😀. Group Captain John, led the Alpha group of six Wayfarers since Ann B was unable to take part, after cycling in the rain earlier in the week, having taken the Chill out of Chilworth.

Group Captain Mick led the Omega group merrily along our route.

My Middling Group got underway at 10.40am, Our group of 7 became 9, due to a couple of late entries. We gained a new member to the Midweek Wayfarers on Tuesday evening (welcome Rob, and many happy returns, to our rides). The ninth member was Pat, who had just intended only to ride as far Elevenses, but with some encouragement decided to cycle part of our route with us, which became the whole route 😄🚴. Well done Pat.

Our route was altered so that we passed the old Oak Tree in Crouch Oak lane, and pass it we did, since there weren't any Tree huggers in our group.

It was good to enter Windsor Great Park and escape the many motorists cluttering up the roads, with quite a few of them trying to emulate the emergency services with their speed.

The Cricketers proved to be a good venue for lunch, friendly staff, and not a long wait for our good meals. We didn't preorder any of the meals.

The pub is quite large, I never did get to know where the 1st group were hiding?

Our afternoon Coffee/tea occured at Walton marina (Boathouse) while other groups took tea at the Riverside Arts Centre,

Thanks to all who took part in this Wednesday's ride, an enjoyable day out. Special thanks to Diane for diligent back marking.

Captain Mick writes:

The 10.50am group got off a little late but all present, Gill, Pam, Maddie, Tony Hopkins, Paul J and Colin, led by Mick. We made our way to Windsor Great Park and through by an unusual but fun route. Lunch at The Cricketers was good and served quickly but did provoke a discussion on the definition of the word ‘pie’ 🙂.

The afternoon ride was generally downhill, with a tail wind, as we returned to the river. Members of the group peeled off as we passed near their homes. In the last few miles we were caught in a heavy downpour and arrived back in Walton a little damp.
