CTC Tri-Vets - Riding Groups

To qualify for the Tri-Vets award, you need to complete the 100-mile course in twelve hours, and you're free to do it on your own, if you want to.  No-one wanted to ride on their own in our 2016 event, and the small groups, each with a leader who knew the route, proved very popular.  This being so, we plan to organise groups again this year, but with a slightly different format.

The 'Blue Riband' for CTC distance awards is '100 in 8'  - a hundred miles in eight hours.  In 2016 we had a small number of riders who achieved this, and it seems likely that many of them will want to do it again.  So there will be a '100 in 8' Group this year, specifically aimed at the fast men and women.

An equally small number of riders took it easy, still getting in well within the qualifying time, so there will also be a group that runs at a slightly slower pace,  perhaps with a few more stops, but that will definitely allow its members to achieve the award.  For the minute I'll call this the '100 in 12' Group.  Just like the '100 in 8' Group, membership will probably be limited, so the current plan is for this to be a single group.

In 2016 most riders took about ten hours to complete the course, which seems about right - about 12.5 mph on the road, an hour for lunch and half an hour each for coffee and tea.  So we'll organise as many '100 in 10' Groups as we need.  Each group will be of five or six riders, with an experienced leader, and we'll try to put friends together, as this is a social ride, after all.

So, that's the plan - if you've any suggestions, please have a word with Simon or me.  And remember the date - 19th June!
