A fresh intake for Hilly50

The KPRC Saturday group gets regular new visitors, and I like to help newish riders get into the sport. Some of them had met Mike Morley, and from viewing my May 1st Hilly50 several asked about it and asked if they could do it. So, we setup a ride for Saturday (5th June). I got a lot of questions as they puzzled over the route, so I annotated it, and now at last I understand it quite well!

We met outside Cafe Nero on Epsom High Street, which does excellent coffee, and is a good location except the one way roads and excessive traffic lights are like a cyclists Groundhog Day.

We pressed on to Rykas, meeting two more and started before 10am.

One of the guests found every hill challenging, but he put in great effort, and we had extra rest time after each climb.

Have you noticed the Wayfarers real estate along the way?

The group were impressed with the Heartwork Coffee venue - like a different world.

After Pitch Hill I urged the three fast riders to go ahead and we'd meet up at the NT cafe at the end. Jonathan Chow got a PB on Whitedown, even though he was holding back for his half marathon training the next day.  So did Andrew Creasey and I.

We all got to the end safely, there was a good camaraderie and they were well pleased with the adventure. Some contributed to the St Raphaels cause.

We may have some of them guest ride with us before long.

Neil, Many thanks for organising an enthusiastic bunch for this ride, and special thanks to all who contributed to the St Raphael's fundraising, now at £1,450.
