Our group left The Vineries at about 10.30 with the sun shining and the heat starting to build. On such a hot day, it was good that Hans’s excellent route meant that for large parts of it we were riding in shady lanes, the downside were the hills, but everybody managed them.
The way down to Hazelmere, following some familiar ways proved uneventful with the exception of one puncture that Keith dealt with quickly giving us a short breather until we got on our way.
Group two were just finishing up when we arrived at the pub, they made suggestions regarding refreshments which were mostly taken up, the food and drink came swiftly and much appreciated.
After lunch, we again had to get the legs going, whilst not quite as hilly as the morning there were enough challenges to keep us working, again the shade was welcome, in fact as we approached Guildford we left the shade and certainly could feel the difference.
We encountered heavy traffic in Guildford but managed to get through it and were soon ending the ride in Ripley. Four of us stopped for tea before riding along together and splitting off as necessary to make our ways home.
Thanks to everyone in the group for making it such an enjoyable day and of course to Hans for the route.
