Shoreham Century Ride 2021 - Weds 16 June

Like the UEFA Euros we missed our Shoreham Century Ride last year, so there is even greater interest in our Wayfarers big ride to the coast next Wednesday. Lets not muddy the water by calling it Shoreham 2020! The ride is for Wayfarers 'A' and for those 'B's who are up for a challenge.

We will be following the same route as the 2019 ride, which was based on Mark Gladwins 'minimal hills' route. Arrangements are tweaked to make the best use of time on the longest Wednesday of 2021 for our longest club ride.

Steve Duffin will lead a group from North Cheam leaving at 08:15 sharp.

The main rendevous location is Tanhouse Farm cafe, NB **NOT** Henford Lakes as was mentioned in the initial season rides list. Tanhouse Farm (Newdigate, RH5 5BX) is about two miles further on from Henfold Lakes.

Departure from Tanhouse will be in sub groups between 10:25 and 10:45. We are no longer obliged to 'isolate' on the rides as we were before. The 30 mile ride distance to Shoreham is longer than usual and time frames are challenging, so moderate pace groups will leave before faster ones. This means some groups passing others on the way. "Ride on"👍 is appropriate but see if you can improve on that.

Lunch will be at The Bridge pub. It's had a make over, has a new web site, staff and service were good on my recce ride visit. We have four outdoor snugs reserved for us.

On the return we follow the Shoreham beach road for a bit

then after the airport are a few proper inclines. Enjoy the view across the Adur.
After 22 miles we have tea at The Pavillions in the Park (Horsham leisure centre). The official bike park area here is out of sight so bring a lock. From Horsham we press on 19 miles along familiar roads to Leatherhead. If the weather forecast holds good (28 degrees) that's an extra reason for drinks at Wetherspoons.

Several people usually return by train at Shoreham or Horsham or Dorking. Thunderstorms are forecast as possible from 8pm. If the storms start earlier more can take the train option.

To try and reduce time waiting for lunch, please can you choose your lunch in advance.

The lunchtime baggettes are:

   Black pepper dusted steak    £6.5
   Chargrilled chicken                £6.5  (excellent!)
   Falafel                                    £5.5
   Fish finger                              £6
