It's now 2-0 to circumstances beyond my control. This was my second planned ride up Box Hill with the intention of riding through Walton to tea at Alexandra Park, Epsom. Last time some made it but not via Box Hill which was closed. This time - well we all know the answer.
My group headed off promptly after the AGM ( well done to the Dave's for finishing in good time) and headed into the strengthening wind to the Seven Stars at Ripley. Here Frances left us and we enjoyed lunch while watching the weather slowly deteriorate. After lunch we tried to look cheerful..
but the only real issue was how far we would get before cutting for home. Neil and Steve D left us at Ockham and by Effingham the rain was heavier so we carried on down Lower Road to Leatherhead and home. Thanks to Dave B for back marking.
Ged's group followed:
John suggested we stay and have coffee whilst the rain went off. We did - but the rain didn't! Once outside the Seven Stars we decided on a rain-check at Westhumble - whether to continue to tea. Sure enough, it was still tipping-it down when we re-grouped outside the Stepping Stones. So it was homeward bound to Leatherhead for most - and for me a soggy train ride. Thanks to our 'committee group' (with guests John and Nigel) for putting-up with my quirky navigation around Brooklands and Byfleet, and for Simon for backmarking. A rather damp end to dry and sunny Spring Wednesday's!
