We saw three Red Lions and three giraffes on our ride yesterday. Of course, the lions were pubs* We ate in one - the Red Lion in Lightwater, a friendly local boozer run by Jason and Kerri, where they looked after us very well - and enjoyed football banter. The giraffes in Woodhill, Send, were made of metal rings. Then were was Stanley's gravestone rock, in St Michael's and All Angels' Church, Pirbright. (He is likely to have shot plenty of lions, before and after meeting Livingstone).

A meeting of groups at Stanley's rock. |
Brian led first (report), and I followed. The pacey group missed Janice, the nominated sub-leader, due to a cold, but were expertly jointly navigated by Hans and Neil Warland, ably supported by Andy Hubbard.

The fast crew. |
Early tea was at the Walled Garden - where, apart from Dave Ward, everyone showed-up. Thanks to Dave Vine for dedicated back-marking my group, to Brian for leading a unfamiliar route by Garmin, and to the fast group who coped very well without a sub-leader. And also thanks to Pam for the birthday surprise cakes at Cobham. A splendid Autumn ride.
