I was invited to join the Annual Pickwick Club bicycle ride from Hampton Court on Thursday the 5th of October, only a short ride along the Thames to Kingston and back with a loop around Bushey Park.
Hovis delivery bike, full of Bread
Around 50 riders took part on mainly vintage machines, including two Penny Farthings., plus many very vintage bicycles, which.included one of our old members, Dave Jarvis, on a 1903 BSA, which he intends to ride to Brighton in a months time, Good luck Dave, the bicycle highly geared..

I
rode an old steel-frame Condor, the ride was greeted with many cheers
and applause. There was a refreshment stop, at a local hostelry (of
course) in Hampton Hill before returning to lunch at Thames Motor Yacht
Club. (which had a bar of course).
I think the Pickwick Bicycle Club is
more about celebrating the bicycle rather than riding. Lots of the
members are ex-racers and old Pros. A great day and lovely to see some
wonderful machines.

Be done a Hovis Hill picture you may like to see. I’ll send by e.mail ..
Have these Pickwickers started admitting women members yet, or are they still as old fashioned as their bikes?
There are many women-only clubs of varying disciplines, so why not a men-only club? Seems fair.
