Report for the Easy Riders - 4th October

A lovely surprise to welcome Lynda at North Cheam this week, bringing us a very early edition of the latest club newsletter. Our esteemed editor has surpassed all previous records, surely, with the Christmas issue appearing so soon. It was really good to catch up with Janice and Neil's latest super inspiring summer cycling achievements.

Frank lead out to Cobham, where we were delighted to find the always cheery Norwesters waiting for us, and to discover they wanted to join us for the ride to lunch. Vic White had also turned up - his first ride out with us this season! - and then Brian Bent joined us too.

If Don and Bill had only been out as well the average age of the company would probably have exceeded all records (certainly for this summer).

So sixteen of us headed away from Cobham, initially in two groups, to the Plough in Effingham, led by Frank along mainly quiet lanes via Martyrs Green and Ockham.

We occupied two tables in the pub's lovely garden, and all greatly enjoyed the food, service and company (not necessarily in that order!).

After lunch, we headed for home, most of us down towards Leatherhead through Bookham via the Lower Road. Ed, Gillian and I were trailing the main group and took the railway path to lower Ashtead. Here Ed peeled off over the railway bridge, while Gill and I took the B&Q and Star route to Ashtead and Epsom commons, stopping at the Old Moat for tea and cake.

The main group went up through Leatherhead centre and Ashtead.

Many thanks to Frank for leading and to everyone for your lovely company. Let's hope this beautiful autumn weather continues a few weeks yet...

Pam's report:

It's always a pleasure cycling with C group!

After a good lunch at The Plough in Effingham, Ray, Vic, Liz and myself returned home via Ockham, Ripley, West Byfleet, New Haw and Addlestone. Vic left us for home at New Haw. (Good to see him looking so well!)

At one point we dithered between 'straight on or left'. Ray went straight on whilst we three turned left!! I trust you found your way ok Ray?!

Liz and I parted just out of Addlestone where we had hoped to have a cuppa, but the cafe was shut!🙄
Thanks everyone for making the day such a pleasure. 😊🚲☕🥧
