Cobham - Horley - Dorking
From Cobham, Ed maintained a steady SSE compass bearing, heading for Horley. Great Bookham Common proved no obstacle to his team of 11 + two reserves. At Westhumble came a decision point: to cape or not to cape? No! Here Daniel and Mike M took their leave and the team split briefly at Betchworth Golf Course, some taking the tarmac, some the off-road to Brockham. Pleasant, police-free lanes then led to Norwood Hill. A left turn just short of Terry's Free Wheel Competition course (FWC) saw us scampering into Horley. Somehow, Ed managed to dart out of sight and leave half his team bewildered a few yards from the finishing line at the Wetherspoons Jack Fairman.
Our return was a relaxed and rain-free ride via Newdigate to Dorking, where Ed treated us to an unfamiliar tea-stop at the Dorking Sports Centre, right next door to Dorking Halls. Our discussion over tea included ride etiquette, of which more anon. After tea, each man made his own decision about where he was going and how best to get there
