Bob and I comprised the fourth group, formed at the last minute when we realised that we had more than 18 riders. We arrived at the Patisserie after the three previous groups had left and were away by 11:50.
However we were not alone. A happy team of Easy Riders were polishing off their morning teas and getting ready for departure.
It felt too early in the season to be doing climbs like the Ranmore Common Road up to the junction with the North Downs Way and entrance to Denbies House so we took our time and stopped by the St Barnabas Church for photos and recovery.

The countryside is teeming with pheasants, all happy survivors of the Winter shooting season, and we saw many strutting their stuff out in the open, here in the fields overlooked by Deerleap Wood.
On Monday the Stepping Stones PH will be much more open and will be able to accomodate people in a well ventilated marquee in their garden. But we made do standing in the car park with our delicious chicken pasties, enough fuel to get us up Box Hill and beyond.
At Tattenham Corner, by which time the temperatures seemed to be going down again, we decided against going through to Banstead and took a turn around the Epsom racecourse, stopping briefly to regard the commemorative plaque for suffragette Emily Wilding Davison who died after stepping in front of George V's horse in 1913.
