The easiest route normally taken from North Cheam to Weybridge DC includes the track from Mill Road, Esher through to Molesey Road but the powers that be decided to re-tarmac the end part which precluded anybody using it. All the riders decided to turn right after the bridge over the weir and found some rather well-puddled tracks. This resulted in all of us taking much longer and dirtier to complete the journey.
I arrived at Weybridge DC to find that only one rider was there - Vic White. He was bemused that no other riders were there until I informed him that groups A an B had decided not to adhere to the programme and were meeting at other venues. Vic then regaled me with several stories for the best part of an hour when the rest of the Easy Riders turned up.
We left the DC later than expected and my planned route had to be curtailed as we were booked in at the Jolly Coopers, Hampton. We just went around Weybridge towards Walton Bridge and then through Sunbury to our lunchtime stop. We returned via Kingston Bridge to end the ride a little early as we were unsure when the expected rain would start.
We enjoyed meeting up, of course, but disappointed that we were unable to use our usual route and to enjoy the company of the whole club.
