Unfortunately Anne Connaughton, our designated leader, was unable to join us at the Pheasantry as she was unwell but we still had a sizeable group of 12 - made up to 13 for lunch as Bill Parkhouse feels that we go "too fast" for him to join us for the whole ride.
We made our way to Teddington Lock, crossed over to the Surrey side and followed the smooth Thames path to the outskirts of Richmond. As it was probably going to be a nightmare to cross Bridge Street we joined Petersham Road at a convenient point and went straight through Richmond town centre to join Sheen Road. It was quite an achievement to stay together through the centre but the brightness of our kit probably helped. Turning Right at Sheen Common Drive and right again into Fife Road brought us to Sheen Gate. From there we went through the park to Roehampton Gate and up to Putney Heath and the Green Man to meet up with Bill. Beware! The Green Man charges £6.05 for a pint of Guinness - outrageous.
As we gathered outside the pub, I was just about to pedal off when a car came zooming round the bend and, in order to avoid a collision, I turned my front wheel inwards, promptly fell over and suffered several bruises in the process. Anyway, we carried on over Putney Heath and down to Raynes Park where we went our separate ways. It was quite a short ride but we went along roads not traversed before which made it a little interesting.
I should add that the newish cycle/pedestrian track running from New Malden train station to Raynes Park is now designated Beeline Way.
