Report for B Group - 19th October

Sue's report

I spotted Pyrford Lakes Golf Club whilst on a ride earlier this year and filed it away on my list of possible future lunch venues. After a test lunch a few weeks ago it seemed perfect for an autumn ride: tasty food, lovely setting and friendly staff. With Gill and Steph as sub leads we were all set for a grand day out, taking an anti-circular route via Chobham, Knaphill and Mayford. Thanks to all my group for their good company and Paula for back marking.

Gill's report

Our middle group of six set off from Addlestone in wonderful autumn sunshine. We scrunched leaves and popped acorns along lovely country lanes towards Chobham, Knaphill and Old Woking keeping up a steady pace and before we knew it we were heading into Pyrford Lakes golf club for lunch. A beautiful setting of lakes and greens, a friendly welcome and tasty food. (Great choice of venue Sue)

After a relaxed lunch and photoshoot we reassembled and resumed our neat pack the ten miles or so onto tea at Garsons. So together were we that we needed no corner markers, but thanks go to fixie Dave for his back to front backmarking (!!)  and Tim for his ‘normal’ backmarking! Welcome Jane for your first ride out with us. Hope you had fun!

A great day out!

Steph's report

Last to leave at 11 we hurried the A riders off so they wouldn't have to overtake us.  A lovely route through all the lovely leafy lanes through to Chobham and beyond.  I was only nominally at the front and am grateful to all behind me for the occasional shouts to keep me on track.  The final little loop of the golf course to the photo shoot on the bridge over the Wey was due to my memory, advice of a guy in his garden and a lone canoeist with nothing to do who took the photo.  (The beautiful mill on the other side of a second bridge, awaiting repair, is Ockham Mill, now only accessible from the Ripley side.)

The path from Ockham Mill to the Wey Navigation is open in spite of the plethora of old signs by the canal saying the bridge is closed. A new bridge over the River Wey has been built just downstream of the old one on the edge of the golf course and the footpath diverted. I walked over it on Tuesday. Note - it's not a bridlepath.
