On 10 July the B’s met at the Ferry Café in Shepperton for an enjoyable ride out west to the Farmhouse Café at Fairoaks, near to Wood Green Village. I led the first group away consisting of Terry, Dawn, Gill, Tony and John. The second group was led by Arwyn and consisted of Julie, Davy, Liz and Madeleine. The groups felt much depleted compared to our normal 20 + riders. We set off for Chertsey where we took the park and back roads to Guildford Road and onto Gracious Pond Road, Windlesham Road before turning south at White Bridge. Then on to West End, Bisley, Pirbright and onto Fairlands.
The Farmhouse
Café at Fairlands provided us with our food and a beer for Davey, quickly and
efficiently which left us time to chat before leaving on our afternoon
adventure.
On leaving
the café, we turned right, up a slight incline to Worplesdon Road and along the
cycle path to The Avenue, which is a road that I had not used before. We then
cycled a delightful downhill section of slightly undulating roads before
turning left on to Egley Road, towards Woking. At Myford roundabout, we then
took the cycle path on the righthand side of the road and then turned left along
an unmade track into the woods. This part of the route was recced by Arwyn and
was new to me. Apart from one or two spots of mud it proved very enjoyable and
took us to Woking Park. From here on it was roads that we have used before but normally
in the opposite direction. After Pyrford we joined the Venus route to Byfleet,
Tony left us and agreed to meet us at the Ferry Café. Passing by Brooklands
where we saw a glimpse of Concorde and then up a steep path to Weybridge
station. Here John and Dawn left us for Walton and home. This left just Gill
and me of the first group, so we decided to finish the ride with a boat trip
across the Thames using the Shepperton Ferry. Arwyn took the second group along
the ride route, down to St Georges school and across the meads to the Ferry Café.
Thank you to everyone who came and made such an enjoyable day.
