Wisley Bridge update

Back in February National Highways optimistically posted that they hoped that the new bridge to Wisley (and presumably the bridleway connection to Elm Corner) would be open by late Spring. Well nothing happened so I wrote to them - and in fairness they did reply.

It seems that after the wet weather in late winter they missed a critical window for the utility companies to do their work and they had to wait until it could be rescheduled. It has now under way and NH say they hope to have the bridge open in the Autumn.

However, shortly after I received this information, NH newsletters advised that Ockham Road North (from E Horsley)  would be closed  northbound on the approach to Ockham Park (Ripley) roundabout for all except two weeks until October 6th for the above work. So I think we can be certain that the bridge won't be open until after that.

They also mentioned another fly in the proverbial ointment. At the time they built the road link to the bridge Guildford council had refused planning permission for the Wisley airfield development and so the preinvestment in an access roundabout was cancelled. In May the planning inspector overruled the council and permission to develop the airfield has been granted. They now have to figure out when they can modify the new road to provide access. That is an ongoing discussion between the interested parties.

So maybe Autumn, maybe not!
