Annual Lunch and Prize Presentation
I wondered if a casual hop from Cobham to Cheam merited the honour of a mini ride report. However, as nature abhors a vacuum and in the interests of completeness I decided to record the event, particularly as this will most probably be my last.
Despite the modesty of the endeavour, a few blithe spirits were game for a laugh. So with the compass set we headed SE to Leatherhead, where a spot of light portage took us past the theatre and up Highlands Rd towards the A24. Here, the spirit of the Bounty possessed some of the blithe spirits. The heady scent of mutiny took over and the promise of Reigate Rd distracted them from the leader's determined route of Headley Rd. We did glimpse them just once near Headley Court as we ascended and they descended. We then meandered via Langley Vale and Epsom Grandstand to Tattenham Corner and the Brighton Road for a sprightly sprint down the Mad Mile (how often do we do that?) to Belmont and a relaxing freewheel down Burdon Lane to our feeding station of Prezzo in Cheam. Here we were reunited with the mutineers and fellow Wayfarers for our annual lunch and prize presentation, to celebrate the exploits of the previous year.
