Successful Hilly 50 March 4th 2017

A total of 71 riders signed on in glorious sunshine, though a somewhat muddy route after Thursday's heavy rain. Thanks particularly to Terry Lowe and Geoffrey Shields for doing the signing on and especially to Ray for marshaling at Logmore Lane. Ray reports that the traffic coming up Logmore from Westcott was horrendous. So I am pleased that there were no collisions between bikes and cars. Some riders also mentioned lots of horses en-route.
Well I will now attempt to start publishing a series of photographs not necessarily in any order but as ever I must compliment VC-Londres for their magnificent turn-out as ever. They also told me that it was their annual dinner in the evening, the first function to be held at the now open Herne Hill Stadium. Will be interesting to hear how they got on! Many other clubs supported the ride like Addiscombe and Epsom CC.

Geraldine, Marek, Jake & me at the start.

Above Mark third to finish on his splendid bike. It is of course not a race but what today we call a Sportive but in my early days with CTC 1956 a reliability ride (like 100:8, 100miles in 8 hrs).Second rider home, a lovely chap with his family there to great him at Box Hill, he was one of the guy's I approached a few weeks earlier to point to "Google Hilly 50" and it worked. The guy to finish first in 1hr.53mins for the third year running was Steve Winder form Epsom CC. Well done Steve and thanks for you continuing support along with Daniel Arthur below.

More to follow!
