Resuming Group Rides - the Wayfarers Route Map.

The Committee successfully tested a trial group ride of six on Wednesday 3rd June. (see the write-up below). We now wish to move onto the next stage of resuming Wayfarers group rides. (The arrangements for Easy Riders is outlined separately below). Three Stages are planned.

Stage 1. 10th June - Group leaders only.
It is planned to trial separate A and B group rides on 10th June. For these rides we will be limiting participants to experienced leaders: this is to enable leaders to gain experience of the ‘new normal’ of social distancing in group-riding, and to assist  them in planning their own rides once we recommence our Rides List in July. The elevenses location is likely to be Dorking, but a venue has not yet been fixed.
Again, these rides will be led by Committee members. Depending on numbers, Tim Court and Jennie for the Bs, and Ged and Simon for the As. Participants - limited to existing leaders, will be invited shortly. Not all leaders who wish to ride may be accommodated this time, but there will be further opportunities for group riding later. Depending on the successful outcome of these trial rides we plan to move onto the next stage of resuming group rides.

Stage 2. 17th June - open to all, but limited numbers.
The Wayfarers rides on 17th June will be from Redhill for the As and participating Bs. Dave Vine will lead the As and Paul James the Bs. These rides will be open to all. Depending on the outcome of the previous group ride, numbers may need to be limited in order that no more than two separate groups of up to six for both As and Bs can be adequately organized, led and managed. Sub-leaders may therefore be needed. To avoid disappointment riders will be asked to pre-booked their place. However, those Bs not riding from Redhill should not, on this occasion, attempt to meet in Kingston as there is likely to be a full quota of Easy Riders here. (see below). Again, elevenses venues in Redhill have yet to be decided, and so further details will be announced.

Stage 3. 24th June - open to all, with carefully managed groups of six.
Finally, and again depending on the successful running of the previous rides, we hope to run  full Wayfarers rides on 24th June from Walton on Thames for all 3 Wayfarers groups. This will give leaders and their sub-leaders the first opportunity to plan and manage a ride following the guidelines published on the blog on 2nd June. Again pre-booking is required. Careful planning of elevenses venues will be necessary.

Easy Riders.
It is suggested that Easy Riders meet in Ewell on 10th June and Kingston on 17th June. Elevenses venues will need to be decided. These rides will be limited to six, participants being invited by John Bellamy and Helen Tovey. Depending on the outcome of these rides, more Easy Riders may join a group ride from Walton on Thames, so long as there are no more than six in a group.

What happens next?
All being well, this route-map to resuming group rides will enable us to kick-start our usual group ride programme, starting from Cobham on 1st July. For those leaders responding to their availability, the Rides Secretary will be allocating leaders for these rides in good time for rides to be planned. Please note that there will be no departures from North Cheam until further notice. Thereafter it is hoped to resume the Rides Programme.

If you have any queries about these arrangements, concerns or comments please contact Ged Lawrenson, Rides Secretary. We will only run rides if everybody is confident that their health and safety is fully protected. We have fully researched the availability of  toilets, as set out below, and in this link. https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRL-xw7Z0ac0s-cqlVi3udr1xAeTeJz2oGWnW1uhQagGSYmX_aWn0e6nOvkgUVXpJx6JCW8plCqUt7F/pub Please keep a watchful eye on the blog as changes to government and Cycling UK guidance over the coming weeks may result in changes to these plans. (Current CUK guidance, for social distancing riding, dated 3rd June, can be found at https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/tips-socially-distant-cycling).

With your careful adherence to the guidelines already published, and subject to any further changes, we hope that all Wayfarers will soon be looking forward to a summer of group riding in the comradeship of fellow riders.
