This ride is different from normal, starting from West Byfleet station and going west to Farnham via Woking, Brookwood Park and 2.5 miles of Basingstoke Canal towpath. 21.4 miles and 1050 ft of ascent. The return route is to Pinnocks Cafe for tea in Ripley via Puttenham, Down Lane past the Watts Gallery and then Cycle Path 22 from the Hog's Back descending to Guildford. From there we go through Stoke Park, picking up cycle track 223 to the A3 cycle path to Ripley. Return is 18.6 miles and 1194 ft of ascent. I have already checked the route and the off road is hard packed gravel with only a few muddy bits, which is an opportunity to use your finest off road steed, although any bike can cope. Lunch is at The Fox Farnham where I have booked the terrace, outside, but under cover, where you can also put your bikes safely. The pub is owned by a Greek Cypriot family and hence the menu reflects the healthy cuisine of the region. A word of warning the flat breads are packed with chips to bulk them out, so better to go for the Souvlaki- double the amount of meat in a pitta bread with salad.

The A3 cycle path was very overgrown in places yesterday with lots of brambles sticking out ready to scratch arms and legs!
But a fast Pelton of A riders will help enormously to clear it !
