B Group - 7th June

A large group of twenty-five made our way from ‘elevenses’ in Cobham through the traffic and along to Stoke D’Abernon where we turned left and on to Oxshott. Here we did manage to somehow divide into two groups but after a quick phone call a re-group was made at Malden Rushett. We climbed up Chalk Lane to the Epsom Downs and passing through Walton on the Hill came to the long and steep decent of Pebble Hill Road which I had included in the route with Pam in mind.

Over the level crossing, Betchworth, and along Kiln Lane to the green at Brockham, arriving at a very respectable five minutes to one, 18 miles.

We had pre-ordered our food so the staff were able to serve it promptly and efficiently. Tim Court kindly did the honors taking the group photo outside the pub.

I had flagged up that we would be climbing again after lunch and a small group preferred to go the flatter cycle path route towards Leatherhead whilst the rest of us ascended ‘Little Switzerland’ to Headley Common and then wound our way past Horton Country Park, Chessington and Thames Ditton.

Liz Bernard had very kindly offered to provide tea and cakes at her Studio in Hampton Court, as a result a larger than normal group of thirteen took advantage of her hospitality, where we sat outside and relaxed, a very good way to end a more than pleasurable day, yet another 18 miles from lunch.

The weather was dry with the sun coming out at various times, as usual the company was great and I hope everyone enjoyed and got something out of the ride.

Thanks to those that marked corners that enabled the ride to keep moving along, and also to David J for back marking.
