Wednesday 21 June TANHOUSE FARM

Shoreham Century

Midsummer is almost upon us, so it’s time for the Shoreham Century, the Wayfarers traditional outing to the coast.

I will be following Mark Gladwyn’s now classic “minimal climbing” route, starting 08.45 sharp for those meeting at North Cheam, heading via Epsom Downs, the highest point of the day, to Tanhouse Farm – Note Change of 11’s Stop. Non-Shoreham riders may choose a lower profile route to Tanhouse.

From Tanhouse we leave at 10.45 sharp for Shoreham (30 miles) arriving, headwinds etc permitting, around 13.15. Only one short section of gravel (less than ½ mile) which should not give anyone problems, to avoid a busy road.

Lunch at the Bridge Inn (www.thebridgeinnshoreham.co.uk) overlooking the estuary, or wherever you fancy.

I will lead the group back, but some may prefer to return by train from Shoreham, Horsham, or Dorking.

First tea stop in Horsham (22 miles) hopefully around 16.00 at the Pavilions in the Park (which is actually the sports centre) Hurst Road, RH12 2DF, opposite the Station, as previous years. (www.thepavilionsinthepark.co.uk).

Second “tea” stop in Leatherhead Wetherspoons (19 miles) where refreshments are not limited to tea.

Which adds up to about 70 miles from Tanhouse + your ride to/from home.

Pray for dry weather, and I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

Any questions, please ask (d.vine207@btinternet.com).

Dave

It will be the longest day in both senses! Looking forward to it.

I would have looked forward to it too but regrettably it has not been sycronised well with the KPRC evening Ten # 5 starting at 7.40 South Holmwood! Well OK it could be done but in my case hardly conducive to a good ride for handicap points, especially after the KPRC Kingston/Worthing ride on Sunday! (2hr. 35min in my case), with the fastest being a 1hr.48min. Some fastman from Kingston Wheelers.

I hope to see you at Tanhouse or en-route Heasdley may be??
