22 Wayfarers Set off from Cobham at 10.25 this morning in three swarms
The 1st group being the Queen bees were led out by Steph, followed by Tim G, Brenda, Paula, Annette and Ken.
The 2nd group of Honey bees were led out by Ann Bath, followed by Pam, Ray, Geoff, Tim C, Anne Walker and Grant.
The 3rd group of Worker Bees were led out by Fixie Dave followed by Jacqui, John A; Madeleine, Martin, Yasmine, Inder, Paul J and Brian Bent.
Our ride day was blessed with mainly sunny weather, which is invariably a morale booster.
It was good to have Brian Bent join us at Cobham, but sad that a few of the Wayfarers who had planned to join the ride were unable to do so.
The route took us outwards along the well ridden route of Plough lane, turning right along Rose Lane, (hopefully none were disappointed that we didn't traverse Hungry Hill Lane?). Onwards we went straight through Ripley, then Pyrford, followed by Horsell Common. Woking was next then through Donkey Town and into Lightwater.
Sandpit Hill on Brentmoor Heath |
We alighted from our trusty steeds at the Red Lion. A welcoming Pub, with friendly staff, good food, served quickly and a good ambience in the rear Pub Garden.
The return leg of the ride took us back through Windlesham, along Sunningdale, Wentworth, (Seemingly the first two groups found this part of the route so very pleasant, they decided to walk?)
Onwards we went through Sheperton, with our ride completing at the Wilde Brunch café by Walton Bridge.
Grant, who will have a fairly significant birthday next week |
Ann reports:
The honey bees had a lovely chatty sunny ride including an uphill off road in the woods to the big roundabout where we shortly arrived at the Red Lion. We all had excellent food in the garden. After lunch some really nice new (to me) roads and then ventured into the Wentworth estate and Golf course, having survived some horrible clattery speed humps then passing a huge hole big enough for a tower block, but actually for just one new house!
Posing for the cheerful Security Jobsworth as we rode through Wentworth |
Then a black security car passes us, stops at the top of a hill and gets out, I thought oh no he’s going to send us back, but smilingly says “you can’t cycle, you’ll have to walk your bikes” I then took a photo of our group and he says “can I take a photo of you all” – we had 4 of us in club tops so assume it’ll be on their web site to check we don’t come again! We walked for about 20 minutes. Then before Chertsey there was Tony waiting in a layby! So we all proceeded to tea at Walton Bridge, such a lovely day and enjoyed everyone’s company and many thanks to Dave for the route.
