The Wayfarers' annual rides from Guildford are a long-standing annual opportunity for us to explore an area out of reach from our normal starting points. They also offer you an opportunity to tailor yourself a short, medium or long ride, depending on whether you take the train to Guildford, back from Guildford, or not at all!
The starting point for the 'A' Group ride on 18 August will actually be a short ride from Guildford town centre at The Snooty Fox, Shalford https://thesnootyfox. uk/. Trains also run every hour from Guildford to Shalford station (right next to the cafe).
Simon and Ged have kindly agreed to co-lead, and from elevenses we will take a scenic route through Surrey and Hampshire lanes, passing Frensham Great Pond, to lunch 19 miles from the start The Jolly Farmer at Blacknest, near Binsted https://www. jollyfarmerblacknest.co.uk/ (additional menu choices available at the pub).
Our route back to Guildford station is slightly shorter (about 15 miles) and will include a tea stop at The Watts Gallery, Compton, three miles from the finish.
There are no off-road sections. While not flat, the route is not excessively hilly by 'A' group standards either (about 1,900' of height gain). In short, the ride is suitable for a wide range of abilities and all are welcome! You can find the route and download a .gpx from https://connect.garmin. com/modern/course/71919366 .
If you'd like to sign up, please let e-mail me ( cycledave23@gmail.com ) by the end of the day on Monday 16 August. I am aiming for all groups to set off between 10.30 and 11.00, so if you don't think you can get to Shalford comfortably in time for a 10.30 start please let me know and I will do my best to put you in a later starting group.
