Charity Cycling Event :50 or 100 Miles.

Another Hilly 50 - or Ton? I recognise that some of our Membership just can't get enough miles or hills from regular club rides, so may be interested in this invitation  below that I have received.  It also supports an alternative deserving local charity.

The good news possibly is that participation is not compulsory! My excuse is that it clashes with my younger son's wedding.

Dear Dave and CTC West London,

I am emailing you from a cancer support charity called Maggie’s, which provides free cancer support and information to anyone living with cancer. We are based at the Royal Marsden in Sutton and we help people to take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.

As a charity we rely on the generous support of our local community to keep our doors open and as such have organised a really exciting local event which we would be delighted for you to be a part of.

On Sunday 19 September, Box Hill School and Maggie’s are hosting a cycling event around the Surrey Hills (all compliant with government guidelines). Starting and finishing at Box Hill School both routes will also include a refreshment stop at our Maggie’s centre at The Royal Marsden in Sutton. Please find attached the flyer for more information.

I wondered if you might consider promoting our event to your members. Your help really would be so appreciated! As a thank you I would be delighted to offer them £10 off the registration fee using promo code ‘PROMO10’ and also a free Maggie’s cycling vest worth £45.

The coronavirus health crisis has had and continues to have a devastating impact on people with cancer. At the end of last year, the BBC reported that as a result of the pandemic, an additional 35,000 people could die of cancer this year. Maggie’s is needed now more than ever before, and we are doing everything we can to be there for people during this time.  We are hoping through this event to raise £30,000 which would be enough to support nearly 3000 people living with cancer. Having your support would therefore make a huge difference!

Thank you so much and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you do have any questions.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you.

 Best wishes,

Angela Huang
