Resumption of Normal Club Life - Guidelines for Wayfarers Group Rides

With the Covid pandemic receding we are now gradually resuming normal club life: and very welcome it is too! In April 2021 'A Framework for the Future' was published on the blog for your comments, and your responses were reported to the AGM on 11th May. Comments received have helped us prepare the following 'Guidelines for the Resumption of Normal Club Life'. (Of particular note is that planned rides are published on the blog, with riders needing to respond to the invitation and sign-up to ride in smaller groups).

Resumption of Normal club Life. Guidelines for Post-Covid Wayfarers A, B and Easy Rider Group Rides.

Note: these Guidelines augment the Group Riding and Ride Leader Guidelines, Sept. 2019.

1. Wayfarers rides may normally contain up to 10 riders split into a sub-group, with 6 - 8 an ideal size. (This is to ensure safety on the road).

2. Rides are required to be pre-booked. (see 10 below).

3. Ride leaders choose sub-groups and aim for a balance of sub-groups of a similar size.

4. Ride leaders will usually enlist up to two sub-leaders to plan and execute the ride.

5. Each sub-group should normally meet at a common start (elevenses), as shown in the Rides List, and to follow a common route with the same refreshment stops.

6. Sub-group rides may vary in pace and distance - but keep separate on the road.

7. Riders - as previously, may request which group to ride with - within reason.

8. As is customary, riders may choose to meet at North Cheam to be guided to elevenses.

9. Ride leaders should stagger departures from elevenses - to separate sub-groups on the road: a ten minute gap is suggested.

10. Leaders will announce the ride on the Wayfarers blog, and/or by other methods as appropriate. Details should normally be posted by the preceding weekend. Riders are expected to respond and pre-book their ride by a stated deadline. Arrangements for the ride will usually be confirmed by the preceding Tuesday. Riders cancelling their ride are obliged to tell the leader.
