A group ride 14 October

Next Wednesday's ride will depart from Denbies and head to the Red Lyon Pub in Slinfold before returning to Effingham Vineries which will be the end of the ride.

We'll be heading out through Dorking and to enable us to warm up early on we'll head up Coldharbour which will (hopefully) provide glorious views as we cycle along the top. The pub at Slinfold has a good choice of excellent and reasonably priced sandwiches as well as baked potatoes and other pub food. I've reserved us seating in the huge well ventilated marquee outside although if the day is too cold I'm sure we'd be able to divert inside as it is spacious and was fairly empty when I reccie'd it on Friday.

The return journey has a couple of challenging undulations, the main one being the South to North ascent of Whitedown. Before then, we'll have a couple of miles on a section of the Downs Link (I know, not what you expect on a ride from me). On Friday there was virtually no mud and the surface was mostly fine gravel. It's worth pausing on the bridge to look at the view below.

In view of the challenging ascents on the recce it felt like a harder ride than the statistics showed which were 18 miles Dorking to Slinfold with 1,113ft elevation. Slinfold to Effingham Vineries was also 18 miles but with 1,380ft elevation.

Dave V and Brian have kindly agreed to sub lead so we have space for 15 to join us. All usual COVID compliance rules will apply so we'll need to be in 3 socially distanced groups, each group arriving at and departing from venues separately. Please don't forget your face masks!

If you'd like to join the ride please email me at janice.dawes@gmail.com by 7pm on Monday. If you'd like the garmin file for the route please let me know at the same time.
