'A' Group Ride - Weds 12 May

You may remember, from about two years ago, the planning dispute with the local council which could have led to the closure of Velolife, a former village pub in Berkshire which had found a new lease of life as a highly popular bike cafe.   Fortunately, the dispute was resolved, and we can visit Velolife and sample the coffee!  The cafe has plenty of outdoor seating including a small covered and heated area.  Hot drinks, cake and toasties are available.

Our ride on Weds 12 May 2021 will start at Nauticalia, Ferry Lane, Shepperton, and head west to Velolife (at Warren Row, near Henley) for lunch, then back to Walton, about 51 miles in total, with only a very modest amount of climbing (approx 1,000 ft in all, mainly as long drags but with a couple of short, sharp shocks for good measure).  To break up the return ride there is also the option of a  tea/comfort stop at Virginia Water lake, about 15 miles on from lunch, with another 10 miles still remaining to the 'official' tea stop at Walton.

The route, I hope, combines some roads you will recognise with some which might be less familiar.   There are two surfaced off-road sections, and one unsurfaced, but well drained woodland track of about half a mile (this latter can be omitted should your group wish, but your scenic quotient will be much diminished as a result)!

Neil C, Steve D, and Dave B have very kindly volunteered to co-lead groups (plus Frances as back-up), so up to 19 places are available.   If you would like to join the ride please let me know at cycledave23@gmail.com not later than Monday evening.   I will send out confirmations and final details first thing on Tuesday morning.

This link to the route may not work for everyone but I'll send out a .gpx with the confirmations anyway: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/57630648

Hi Dave. Garmin Connect says I don't have access privileges for your route. Have you made it public - i.e. is the padlock icon open?

Ged, probably not. I thought, probably wrongly, that all my rides were public. I'll se if I can fix it but I'll be sending .gpx to everybody tomorrow anyway
