9th March, Nor'Westers Mystery ride

A blustery and chilly day, but the Sun did show it's welcome face occasionally, which did make for a more pleasant ride. I had kept the lunch destination a secret, I only discovered the cafe the week before.

There were some early birds at 11's, more like 10.05, well that's when I arrived having cycled nearly 2 miles to get there. Eveyone managed to get there in time for coffee and a chat. Gill arrived on an Ebike she was trialling for the day.

For the records the participants were: Liz, Pam, Gill, Paula, Annette Ray Y, Arwen and myself.

We left the park at the Hampton gate and briefly onto the A308 before turning into Lower Sunbury road and it's various name changes before crossing Walton bridge. Weybridge, Addlestone came and went and we were soon at Ottershaw and onto the Chobham road, sailing past Faroaks airfield and into Chobham. Left into Chobham and out on Station road heading back East and confusing everyone.

We soon arrived the the mystery lunch destination, the Heather Farm at Horsel common. The Sun showed it's face one again but we sat in a tent rather than completely outside. Service was good and also the food. The Farm is a lovely location and would be perfect in the summer.

We were soon all fed and watered, paid our dues, visited the facilities and on our bikes heading North., it started to feel decidedly cooler and I soon stopped to add a layer. We were soon on Stonehill road, when we reached Holloway hill I turned left into Loncross and rigth into Lyne lane and across Harwick Lane, soon after the dreaded puncture fairy paid a visit to Annettes rear tyre. With assistance this was soon sorted and we where headed into Chertsey and soon into a headwibnd down Docket Eddy Lane.

We arrive at the tea stop, Nauticailia, only to find Annette hadn't placated the puncture fairy sufficently and she was back for a second bit of the inner tube.

Helping hands and some under breath cussing and all was well. Coffee, Tea, cake and plenty of banter. Gill and Arwen hadn't stopped for tea so only 6 had begun to stiffen up when it w3as time tow head for our respective homes.

A great crowd of like minded Nor'westers mad a great day's cycle ride, thank you all.
