Unfortunately I didn't pick up Helen's message with her ride report when she sent it to me. Apologies for the late publication of this story but it was clearly a very challenging ride for many of the participants which needs to be on the record.

A misty and quite chilly start from North Cheam, still thirteen turned out in anticipation of a lovely sunny autumn day cycling in the Surrey Hills.
Lynda lead us to coffee at Fairfield Centre in Leatherhead via the long route through Stoneleigh, Westmead and Manor Green Road, over Epsom Common then via Ashtead Park and down through Ashtead. There we met Caroline, Ray and Don, and were joined by a new rider, Ricardo, for delicious coffee and treats in the warm sunshine on the centre's sunny terrace.
After coffee, Peter and Godfrey peeled off for home. The rest of us divided into three groups. Lynda offered to lead the direct route to the Stepping Stones along the A24; Liz did the challenge ride up to Great Bookham and Bagden Hill, then down through West Humble; and Helen led the extra challenge ride up to Ranmore Common via Effingham and Crittall Lane, returning down through Denbies.
All of us were more than ready for lunch, which we enjoyed in the still sunny garden at Stepping Stones. Then we headed home along the A24 afterwards. There was no tea stop today.
From Strava, nearly 35 miles and 1547 feet by our extra challenge riders; challenge ride nearly 29 miles and 1223 feet. Well done all!
~ Helen
