Easy Riders - 11th March

Coffee Active in Ashtead was heaving with customers so our group set up camp at Handley's café in the High Street for elevenses instead. From the High Street we turned up Park Lane to join Farm Lane and Headley Road. The intention was to ride up to Headley Heath, turn right through the village and then down through Little Switzerland to the Stepping Stones for lunch. However, Paul James advised us that Headley Road was closed, even for bicycles, so we turned off right at the old Headley Court Hospital and took The Drive through Tyrrell's Wood Golf Club, across the Leatherhead By-Pass and into Highlands Road. We skirted the centre of Leatherhead by going down Gimcrack Hill and following the River Mole to the bottom of Bridge Street and then via the Nature Reserve to join Cobham Road. A short way along we turned left up School Lane at the end of which was lunch in the welcoming arms of the Bell.

After lunch we retraced our route but went past Leatherhead train station and the railway line, turning left into Kingston Road and taking the route over the M25 and across Ashtead Common to Horton and the Moat for tea and nibbles.
