RE-post for those who may have missed it..........Info for London ride, 18th March 2020

This years spring ride into London will head right through the heart of the city, passing many of its world-famous landmarks on the way......Buckingham Palace, St.Pauls Cathedral, Bank of England, Tower Bridge will all be on our route.

The 11's venue and start point for the ride will be the Paddock School Cafe on Priory Lane in Roehampton.

This is a school for children with special needs, and has a cafe that opens 2 mornings a week to give the kids an opportunity to gain some work experience. Bikes can be left against the green fence on the main road, or for early arrivals, carried down a small flight of steps into the small courtyard in front of the cafe.

Steve Duffin has kindly agreed to lead riders from the North Cheam meeting point to the 11's venue, and in order to allow for a prompt departure for the main ride, Steve will be leaving North Cheam slightly earlier than usual, at 9.15am.

We will be heading for lunch at the The Pommelers Rest (Wetherspoons) at Tower Bridge, and to tea at the Windmill Cafe on Wimbledon Common.

It is a distance of 14 miles from 11's to lunch, and 12 miles from lunch to tea. Almost entirely flat, just 500 feet of climbing....and most of that coming in the ride up to tea.

I have ridden the route twice at the same time that we will be riding, and despite following some quite major roads at various points, there was much less traffic than I had expected. A combination of back roads, cycle paths, cycle lanes, and roads closed to traffic except buses and cycles, should make for a safe and stress-free ride.

I plan to go to lunch only by train to London Bridge & Brompton folder to socialise. The good news is that I have now been given permission to do gentle mainly flat riding in anticipation of the Easter Tour which by all reaction to Steve & Ann's email looks like being cancelled? I hope not! Please phone my mobile 07802234836 if the ride is off in case I miss the blog. Thanks and have a good ride. Mike M.
P.S. We raised £312.50 from the Hilly 50 for St. Raphael's, thanks to all who rode, helped and donated.
